in need of some fresh air

hallelujah, the swallows are back! yesterday morning i heard them for the first time this year in zurich...

while i am still debating whether to take my socks off or not these young ladies have made their choice (yesterday morning at the bus stop).

please note that next week the shop will be closed!
i'll be back on 8th of may, have a good time and  hasta la vista...

a bit of a dangle

i have been known for pushing gently encouraging ladies to try long earrings... it's for the good cause ladies! because i think they usually look great it just takes a little courage. i like a bit of a dangle, the movement along the neckline... and if you ask me - more often than not - i can see a cheekiness in the eye of the demoiselle trying on such a pair that wasn't there before.

of course you may have to try a few earrings to find the pair that suits you. there is a secret golden ratio of lenght and width for everyone...

to tie the knot (or not)

as you have discovered by now i have a (very) weak spot for jewellery. (call it the neanderthal genes: people have always adorned themselves and always will. with bones, stones, feathers, shells, gold) everytime i get delivery it's a special moment when i'm about to open the package and re-discover the pieces one by one, feels like i was the Count of Montecristo opening the treasure chest!

yesterday i was fedexed a small package no larger than a big envelope (ah, bless the fact that jewellery - unlike ceramics for example - is light and takes so little storage space, there's no breakage...) and this is what was inside: new gold rings, timeless yet special. the stuff wedding bands are made of.

other than that there were some necklaces and a bracelet, pics to follow soon.

more colours

this afternoon i sold one of the twin bracelets in red and this reminded me that i haven't yet posted about the other colours as i said i would. so here are the other colours: turquoise, nude (almost white), all gold and multi-colour. i also had a dark blue one with tiny lapislazuli stones but it's sold.

lovely details

alright folks, enough of whining for at least two weeks (remember this week on a clear-up mission and then a week of holidays)!

today, with some sunrays we're remembered of spring, many trees are still in bloom and there is a street on my way to work where roadsides are swept with scattered pink petals. natural confetty, so to speak.

i have a set of cards if you look at them closely they are full of lovely floral details. look at these green leaves for example or the pinkred lined ricegrain-shaped leaves. i wish i had them as stickers too. do you want to produce them for me?

24.4.12

honestly, honestly? after a good week-end i still don't feel like working my ass off (as they say) but i do see that problems will not evaporate on their own. this week i'm on a mission to get some things off my table so at least i can see more clearly.

and then i will be on a holiday for a week! where i shall be not thinking at all! can't wait.

and then... you hear it straight from the horse's mouth, i will make the mental space to think about my work problems and how i can address them.

escapism... (don't read this if you're in a bad mood already)

today i woke up in a sweat, i'd dreamt my old teacher told me i had to re-do my a-levels in mathematics: my recurrent nightmare! can you please analyse me?

i interpret it thus that sometimes i feel a bit overwhelmed by it all, the everyday worries, the hassle with suppliers and importing goods, the not so positive economic outlook, the swiss/euro disaster, endless to-do lists that never diminish however much overtime i put in. not to mention the dust, the bloody dust! in short, i'm running in the hamster weel, stuck in a rut.

help! so of course i dream of escape...

and while i'm at it i'm dreaming on a high level: see this serene spot on a mountain top with splendid view... please sign me in for a week (or two).

sorry folks, but it had to come ou
t. i know it's the same for everybody in every job, sometimes we're frustrated. i wish you all a week-end to thoroughly enjoy, let some steam off and (re-)connect with life's joys.

a nice bunch

nothing can rival the beauty of nature but daniela's paper flowers are quite wonderful too. here a colourful bunch as picked by isabel a few days ago. i thought it was so beautiful i had to snatch a pic before they went.

since after easter i'm in short supply of flowers (or let's say the most beautiful ones have been picked)so i hope to get new ones from daniela but it may take a while. if you plan to get some please enquire first if new ones have arrived to make sure you're not disappointed.

light and delicate yet striking this bracelet looks good on its own but can also easily be combined with other bracelets.

dark skies

saturday morning i jumped onto a train to paris for a 5o-iest birthday party i couldn't miss.

now i'm back and the skies seem very gloomy to me: right now i wish i could launch some of my suppliers into outer space and the shop along with them!

in case you know of a saudian princess interested to buy a little toy (e.g. my shop) wholesale, please let me know asap...

ok, so i'm in a foul mood today (or say friday 13 is not over yet) but tomorrow is another day and i'll be back with the twin bracelet, promised.

pastel colours

(but) to finish on a positive note before the weekend, here are the fresh and lovely colours for a jewellery line i've had for well a year now. if you've already had an overdose with all the pastel colours seen everywhere just pair one of these with a white/grey/kaki/indigo/blue t-shirt and it's sure to look good. and for far longer than just this season.

there is also a new bracelet called twin bracelet that was my highlight when i saw and ordered it last january. and i was every bit as happy when i unpacked it last week: it's b.e.a.u.t.i.f.u.l. next week i'll take pictures for you to see.

have a good week-end everyone, i'll be back on tuesday, tomorrow the shop is closed!

friday 13

are you superstitious?

hmmm.... that my computer mouse refuses to work even though i've changed the battery (and tried a few) so apparently choses to bite the dust on friday 13 is annoying and slowing me down but well, harmless. yet there is something else that has made me very cross indeed today. grrrrrrrr!

too delicate to photograph

right, so here is the new gold necklace collection by vanrycke.

18 carat rose gold means it doesn't come cheap, but hey, a delicate gold necklace like this is not only beautiful but a classic that you will love and keep all your life either to be burried with or to pass on!

before & then

what did you do on easter?

although we spent two days away in ticino i had brought home computer and piles of paperwork, which turned out to be pointless, since i didn't even touch the files. but instead bf and i did this: we re-did a corner of our living room!

we moved into our flat nearly 10 years ago and always felt very lucky to have gotten it even if it meant to move to the outskirts of zurich. bye-bye nightlife. and bye-bye bicycle.

we more or less kept the flat as is was for all those years (enough of shifting in the shop already) but since last winter we really longed for a table. i mean a real table. the one in the kitchen can only really sit two persons and the others are low tables or a long slim office table.

unplanned as it was this week-end we did it: move out the long slim office table and replace it by a square walnut table i had bought secondhand (for a mere 200.- a good buy, it was first meant for room #4 of the shop) a couple of years ago and that was sleeping in the cellar. it was only meant as a test to see if we had enough room for a table there but then we decided to keep it just the way it had almost accidently turned out. no need to buy a new table and actually the chairs (found on the sidewalk many years ago) will do too. a make-over that didn't cost us a penny.

we had to make a clean sweep of some stuff and i know it will be difficult to keep it from coming back, but cross my heart, i'll do my best!

it's always fun to see before and after photos, don't you think? since i didn't expect that we'd change the setting of the room there and then i didn't take any picture right before the change, but i found an old picture that will do the job.

ps: do you spot the vase on the table? that has a special meaning to me and why i will tell you shortly. but tomorrow i'll first be back with yum-yum jewellery news!

back from...

istanbul! what a city... i had no idea it was so huge, 13.5 mio - twice the population of switzerland - and an estimated 4 mio cats! to stand at the galata bridge and hear the muezzins start to call for prayer is truly amazing...
