carpet island

from patterned to more subtle, many ways to structure a room with a carpet - if you're lucky to have a large enough room that is.

these pictures a snapped out of a danish magazine. btw, the room in the middle picture is the home of a designer for IKEA, but it doesn't look like she bought her stuff there, or do you think?

happy week-end everyone!

winter warmers (2)

oh dear. winter is staging a comeback and although i know it's only for a few days today really feels we're still a long way from spring. so we're back to the winter warmers and, case in point, the rugs. not only are they effective to give your home a warmer feel, they can add depth and character to a larger room, e.g. below your sofa and sofa table. wood floors and rugs actually enhance each other so you may want to keep the rug for spring and summer too. in the next few days i'll scan and post a magazine picture quite self-explanatory of the above, but where's that magazine hiding?

yes...

there are more clever options with the shelf system. as seen here on the picture by muuto you can use single pieces as a little sofa or bedside table (the one shown here is the smallest of the 3 available sizes), or you can build a light room separator to insulate office space etc. and still have the same amount of light.
on this picture you see the wood veneer version of the cubes. all white, all wood veneer or mix&match? it's up to you...

for the past few days...

i have been highly irritated with my new home computer, my first mac, but here finally some pics of the new window display. with this simple yet genious shelf system there are so many options that i didn't know what to do! the good thing is that you can get a fantastic result even with limited space. i want one for home!

inspiring

do i run a shop or does it run me? that is the question.
yesterday i was cleaning the shop window both in- and outside. it is tough for your arms and it's not easy to get a decent job done (very high window with stickers and an unstable ladder). after deciding on a new window display (hang on for pictures!) which desperately needs more electric light i was musing on how nice it would be to have an electrician do the job instead of my fiddling with the wiring. proper professionals! pie in the sky for now...
so imagine how surprised i was when i was sent this beautiful picture by hobby photographer Markus Lamprecht!
it's a still life of his girlfriend's arm, wearing the bracelet he had bought in the shop for her thirtiest birthday. très Versailles, don't you think? so big cheers & thanks to Markus! check out his homepage here http://www.markus-lamprecht.ch/
too bad i only had the one bracelet, it's gone!

winter warmers

now for february... well, after january it can only get better :) mind you, it's still horribly cold and dark in the morning, so to say i jump out of bed in top gear is a definite exageration.

in zurich, we swear by (old) wood floors, but to ensure a softer landing once you fall out of bed, you should consider to strategically position a rug. yes, a rug. of course this rug needs to feel good under your feet and look pleasing enough to the eye. so stay clear of all the crap rugs and be prepared to throw some money at the cause! not as much as you may think though and it will be worth every penny.
