beginner's luck

this week i redid the front window display and yesterday i added this drawing to the windowpane and i'm rather pleased how it turned out because there was no plan behind it at all.

i wish you a wonderful weekend and there is something i should tell you now: the shop will be closed on saturday!

Marie au boudoir

today Marie, the maker of the lovely liberty pouches, and i had a very enjoyable coffee sitting outside next to the shop and she was wearing these shoes...

the exact fabric she's making the pouches with!

i mean, even if it looks a bit silly (all the photos turned out a bit shaky because we were laughing) how could we not take a picture?

to see more of her liberty pouches click on the tab "purses and pouches" below and scroll.

a prickly situation

call it the return of the cactus. en vogue sometimes in the eighties (of course some of you weren't born yet :-)) they're back. big time. i've seen them everywhere from home magazines, trade shows and shops in paris and copenhagen.

now... do we really need a trend for plants we want to decorate our homes with? course not.

but guess what: i have already fallen for the cactuses i have brought to the shop yesterday. they look fine in the ceramic pots, don't they?

plus you only have to water them once a month!

smallest tassels

last friday mireya bought this beautiful pair of earrings for her sister who lives in madrid.

sounds like a rather exciting destiny for these earrings :-)

what was i thinking by ordering only one single pair in this colour combination? search me.

i'm reordering! if i can.

at least i snatched a picture before they were wrapped.

in the mailbox

hello dears! i hope this finds you in a good friday mood!

just a few minutes ago mireya sent me this picture of her home with a tall papervase she bought in the shop a while ago.

the floor boards, the woodpaneled door... from the little we see it looks like a lightfilled home we would like to live in. but no surprise there, she's an architect.

bye and see you back next week.

danish fast food

i do have a kitchen at the back of the shop, but i never get around cooking for lunch. to grab something to eat that i haven't had more than my share of (müsli, sandwiches step back!) is my problem...every day. poor me is lacking ideas!

but today i had some herring and typical danish rye bread that i have brought back from my last visit. nothing to cook but still tasty. and good looking on a dark ceramic plate.

it's an easy trick: everything looks much yummier on a ceramic plate, you can try it!

you needn't buy whole sets (although that's nice) but even just one ceramic plate in the office is a dayly pleasure that makes a difference. the one shown here costs 34.-

two cocktails on a friday night or a ceramic plate......

ps: ceramics are dishwasher safe :-)

new scarves

today i was in town to run errands and i was surprised to notice there were really two camps: ladies in summerfrocks and ladies sporting an autumnal look with scarves and boots (really!). so of which team are you?

either way... here is a first view of some of the new scarves, all of them printed but in many different materials (cotton, silk, wool, modal and mixes).

some of the silk shawls, as the one shown above, come in a pretty box.

back to school

that was that then, the school summer holiday is over... so it's back to work for me too.

you happily ignore the silly autumn collections in the clothes stores until mid august, but once you're close to september, pang it's there: the sinking feeling that comes with realising that the end of summer is near. ahh, summertime...

while i'm struggling to get my mind back in track, i'm glad i did some work in january by ordering shawls of the coming autumn/winter collection because, now they're here, the parcel from danemark arrived precisely today!

good timing, isn't it?

the punk in me (how unlikely is that?)

ahem... i must admit i have been a bit lazy this week! i'm staying with my grandmother in south of france and the environment is not exactly work-inducing.
i should totally put my mind on autumn/winter and how to fill my shelves for the coming months... but my brain plainly refuses to go back to work.
i fear my brain has turned into a punk screaming: no future!
so here is a message to my brain: hello, we're not in 1984 punk anymore (refusal!rebellion!), punk 2.0 is only about stealing their edgy paraphernalia. in a more beautiful 2013 version, mind you (safety pins pearcing the ear, no thank you).
so even terribly well-behaved girls like us can wear punky jewellery like those earrings and have fun with it. because honestly... would you wear those earrings for a job interview? to be presented first time to your mother-in-law? he, he, thought so!
reminder: i'm away until next week but the shop is open thanks to alexandra!

bags, bags, bags

the bag you have seen before, but not the two colours below: the yummy kelly green and the more elegant kaki green. but you should see them in real, the leather is truly beautiful.

i have a very concrete idea of how i would like to propperly display these bags in the shop but that would entail a bespoke piece made by the carpenter and, crucially, shedloads of $$$ (the kind of money you have to sell many bags for)... so for now i'm just dreaming about it.

then, did you know the 10th anniversary of the shop is approaching fast?? so i might just get carried away...

reminder: please note that the shop is closed this week!

3.8.13

shop opening times for the next two weeks

please note that the shop will be closed from august 6-10.

the week after, from august 13-17, alexandra will open shop doors now and then, but i will fill you in on the exact dates as we go.

please make sure to check the latest blog entries or call 043 243 75 43 if you plan a visit.

meanwhile i have prepared posts in advance for next week to pop up at 11h so if you're trapped in the office you can have a little tour on the blog :-)

see you back live soon!

en route

friends, there is no 2 ways about it: the last two weeks in the shop have been... boring! universtitätstrasse feels like a desert at that time of the year: school holidays, semester break at university/eth and throw in hot temperatures...ok, i never run out of work (yet this is a permanent = normal state of things here) but to see so little life is demoralizing the troops!

i hope i have made a good enough excuse because of course i have already thought of the logic remedy: to close doors until the end of the school holiday!

so here we go: please note that the shop will be closed next week from august 6 to august 17. we'll see if alexandra will open shop doors here and there. of course i will keep you posted about this eventuality.

have a good time!!

pic of a danish magazine... i wish i could kick out the inhabitants and live there!

present TLC

sometimes finding a good present is a real headscratcher. i'm not saying that presentation is half the rent, but it definitely matters. the tlc you put into the packaging will show.

i much like these new black&white and the grainy dot wrapping papers. since spring i also have gift ribbons in various colours. paper and ribbon, two items to keep in stock at home at all times... comes in handy often enough for last minute presents!
